Time to get back on the horse

Well, it has been a rough few weeks and I think it's time to get back on the horse and begin writing again.

Here is our family status update:
We currently live in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia,
currently have 4 children ranging in age from 3-8,
we homeschool and attend a university model school 2 days a week,
I co-lead a women's Bible study,
cart our children to multiple activities and parties,
and try to keep a peaceful home in the process of it all.

It's overwhelming at times, but when I step back and look at all God has blessed us with, I can't help but feel choked up and grateful for even the craziest days. Our biggest update is that we've decided to adopt. Yes, that would mean we would have at least 5 children age 8 and under. (I'm actually praying we'll get twins!) Some of you may think we are insane and have enough children in our home. For those of you naysayers out there, I'd love to introduce you to my Almighty God. He has been tugging on our hearts for the last year and gotten our attention. We feel called to expand our family through adoption. WE CAN'T WAIT!!!!! Our children are especially excited and we look forward to the adventure. We are adopting domestically and we are hoping it will be a quick process (less than a 2 year wait). I love hearing the adoption stories of friends and acquaintances, so if you have one you want to share, please do!

If you are looking for a blog on how to be organized or how to be an organized homeschooler, I am NOT your girl. I am not an organized person naturally, BUT I love a clean house and no clutter. Unfortunately, 4 children equal a big mess so it's been a process to get our home in an order of workability. I admit that at times our house may appear to outsiders as massive chaos, but for us, it works.

So, you may be wondering, "Why is this girl even writing a blog?" Well, there a multiple reasons, but generally, I just need a place to write out my thoughts without judgement. I have a love/hate relationship with facebook and there are times I would like to make a statement, but then think twice as I don't want to offend someone or be judged harshly. So, I'm hoping my blog will give me the freedom to be myself and write what I want. So, let me jump right on in....

Two big thoughts today:
I am ready to admit my addiction to coffee. I realized yesterday that I'm worse off than I thought. I could barely remember my name without that cup of goodness. I went all day without any drop of caffeine, not on purpose mind you, and by 4:30, I still felt like I was in a cloud of forgetfulness. So, I confess that addiction, but I refuse to change my habit at this stage in my life. It brings a little happiness to my mornings and a smile to my face when I take the first few sips each day. Not ready to give it up, especially when we are adding another baby to our brood soon!

Second thought: potty training is hard work. My 3 and a half-year-old is not potty trained. I wish I could hire someone for this task. We are working really, really hard on it, but he really could care less. What would make him care? We've tried rewards, movies about the potty, books, etc, etc...we are now emphasizing regularity with him. Regular trips to the bathroom equals no accidents. He does great in underwear, horrible in pull-ups. So, I'm always watching him and reminding him to "take potty breaks". My oldest child has a similar personality and she took sooooo long to potty train. I just want to "tap-out" and let the potty fairy take over. Wouldn't that be a novel idea? A fairy that just taps your child during the night and "voila!", they are fully potty-trained in the morning! I'd love that! Whoever invented the tooth fairy, needed to expand their thought to this area, right?

Enjoy your weekend and God bless!
"Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV)
